Call for Presentations –

2021 Great Lakes Climate Action Seminar

The NY Upstate, Ohio, Wisconsin and Michigan Chapters of the American Society of Landscape Architects are collaborating on this continuing education opportunity.

We are pleased to announce this Call for Presentations for the 2021 Great Lakes Climate Action Seminar. The theme is climate change and resiliency in the Great Lakes region.

Description: Climate change and its impacts do not stay within state boundaries. This symposium seeks to bring together landscape architects and allied professionals to understand climate change issues specific to the Great Lakes Region. It will explore both academic and professional projects/strategies to address these issues, and will provide a forum to share these strategies and to learn from the experience of others in support of the environmental stewardship of the Great Lakes Region. Symposium topics may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Climate change impacts to the Great Lakes (rising temperatures, changing weather patterns impacting water levels and runoff, shoreline erosion and flooding, invasive species, etc.); the relationship between these impacts and environmental justice in Great Lakes communities

• Policies regarding water level management as well as policies potentially influenced by climate change issues in the region (Local, State, Inter-state, International)

• Rising temperatures and the impacts on agriculture and urban communities

• Increased storm occurrences and mitigating flood potential and runoff

• Wetlands and habitat restoration

• Migrating plant species
