The New York Upstate Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects, in an effort to encourage the participation and recognition of Landscape Architects and to better familiarize the public with their activities and projects, announces the Annual Awards Program for 2009. The program recognizes a full spectrum of innovative projects and efforts executed by individuals, firms, agencies, and academic institutions.

2009 NYU ASLA Awards Judging Criteria
A guide to the criteria used for making award determinations.
The deadline for receipt of submissions is August 15, 2009
The 2009 Awards are as follow:
- Honor Award of Excellence
An award for projects representing the highest professional standards.
- Merit Award of Achievement
An award recognizing professional work of significant quality, innovation or professional impact.
- Community Achievement Award
A category for any group or individual (landscape architect or not) that has made a noteworthy contribution to the landscape.
Professional Award categories include:
- Built Design
This category includes streetscapes, waterfronts, park and recreation projects, commercial and industrial projects, subdivisions and residential developments.
- Unbuilt Design
This category includes conceptual and developed designs prepared for a client, but never constructed.
- Residential Garden Design
Residential garden/landscape projects.
- Planning & Analysis
Including transportation/urban/regional/community planning, government policies, programs or regulations.
- Research, Historic Preservation, and Communication
Category includes research projects that address challenges posed in landscape architecture; historic resources inventories and all other restoration and/ or preservation projects; and communication of landscape architecture history, theory or practice to those within or outside the profession.
Professional projects must be submitted by an individual registered as a Landscape Architect in New York State who is a member of ASLA and maintains a work address in Upstate New York. The project must have been completed since January 1, 2004. Any project that has previously won an ASLA award is ineligible. Entries will be judged by a multidisciplinary jury from outside the NY Upstate Chapter ASLA.

Entry fee and

Microsoft PowerPoint presentation submitted on a compact disk OR a written description of the nominee and their contribution. The description should not exceed two double spaced pages.
Attach any photographs, news articles or any other item that would help to describe their contribution.
Maximum size: 20 slides.
All PowerPoint slides must use the NYUASLA’s templates.
